4 Terrifying Prehistoric Creatures That Lived Before the Dinosaurs
If you thought dinosaurs were scary, then wait till you hear about these monsters
The Earth has gone through several geological cycles, and the animals and plants we see today are the descendants of ancient creatures that lived hundreds of millions of years ago.
Even we can trace our ancestry to a humble toothy beaver called Kimbetopsalis simmonsae. It survived the dinosaur extinction event and emerged as one of the few animals whose descendants are still with us today.
But where did this toothy beaver come from? And where did the dinosaurs come from? Life has existed on Earth for billions of years, and the geological periods that preceded the dinosaurs were abundant with life.
The Carboniferous and Permian eras had so much biodiversity that almost all of the coal and oil that we use for our energy comes from the deceased plant and animal life that lived during these periods.
The Permian period lasted for 40 million years and ended after the ‘Great Dying’ 250 million years ago. The creatures that roamed the Earth were unlike anything we’d ever encountered, and a few of these were truly terrifying indeed.
